My new Speake-Marin arrived Friday. I believe it to be the second steel Piccadilly with a white gold engraved dial; at least, it says "No. 2" on the certificate and back. Given the somewhat tepid reaction from my family -- "oh, uh, that's nice" -- to a watch that elicited my "wow" when I opened the box, another "wow" when I picked it up and a third when I put it on, I was wondering how this community reacts. I should point out that photos do not capture the wonderful way the engraving coruscates with any light.

 

 thats how i would discribe it overall and i would add a piece of art craftmanship wise as well . congartulations mate.

That is, for me, the most beautiful PSM watch I have ever seen. I love the dial, the lugs, the hands -- everything. 

How about a wrist shot and a view of the back of teh watch, please.

Congratulations!  I hope it grows on your family, but even if it does not, you should enjoy that beauty for years to come.

As much as I love Peter's new movements, titanium cases and multi-piece dials.... and I do love them.  I have no less affection for the earlier pieces with modified ETA movements.  They are an important part of his evolution as a watchmaker and as demonstrated by the beautiful dial received no less attention from the watchmaker. The serpent-calendar has been calling for sometime now.

Superb watch and congrat's....(very jealous=).

naturally your family will react with a WOW had you bought them the new IPad or X-box, but what do they know

No worry. I could like the Urwerk but much prefer a PSM without serpents.

Thanks for the good words, all. Glad to know I'm not alone. Here are three more pics and what was requested, the back and the obligatory wrist shot. They are not the quality of the earlier photos (which I did not take, my dealer did; and, yes, he's not just good in photography but in all respects). I took these with my phone so they are rather poor (particularly the wrist shot which does a disservice to the watch). If there is any demand, I can take and post better photos when I return home in a few days.

It's actually not guilloché (which just proves something about the poor quality of my phone photos and the way in which photos don't capture depth) -- it's hand engraved. In fact, to me, one of the nice things about the engraving is that it is asymmetrical. You can see that in the first photo I posted. It is similar and at first may look to be the same across the 12-6 axis but if you look more you will see that it is a design. That design adds much of the beauty -- and art, as opposed to fine craftwork -- to me of this piece.

By the way, have you considered a new family?

As a fellow PSM owner, welcome to the club! PSM's are truly extraordinary and definitely not mainstream. It even took me 2 tries to fall in love with the style. Once I got over the hump and built up my confidence to wear it more frequently (hard to believe right!!!) I never looked back. It is a strong watch that elicits many comments, more so than any other watch I own. In fact, my family now absolutely forbids me to sell it and each of my children are fighting over who has rights to it so I guess I will have to get another!! No matter, you will have many years of enjoyment with it. Congratulations and keep the pictures coming. That dial is fantastic!  Mark

I suggest not a "bow wow" - human talk for a dog - but more of a WOOF WOOF (a really big dog) or a WUFF WUFF (the german version of the same) but have you seen pictures of the MARIN 2, or SM2 - not here but a few steps away from a couple of "other" forum corners?

I think Peter's work will be true treasures for many generations. Great choose and a beautiful watch.

That's a beautiful PSM!  The engraving in the center of the dial is unusual and delicately lovely!  A great timepiece!

I promised another wrist shot. How about this one? The watch and the maker. (The owner is a bit irrelevant, but he snuck in wearing watch). Best part was meeting Peter. His enthusiasm for his watches, and certainly the Thalassa -- which is stunning -- was contagious and he was altogether pleasant and delightful. Now, if I could only figure out a way to stand with a maker each time I get a watch. Nice to be able to pose with a person -- hard to do that with a corporation

That's awesome!  I admire Peter a lot.  He's one of the great independent watchmakers, and you're right -- getting a special timepiece from a person is a lot more meaningful than buying one from a corporation!
