I've had my eye on this one for a while and had the opportunity to purchase this black dialed version back in March. I decided to have it serviced under warranty in NYC and as part of the service had the watch "upgraded with a new dial, hands, escapement module and 8 day wheel. I have comparison pictures at the end of the post with the old dial/hands vs. the new dial/hands.

As you can see, the hands are shaped differently (I think for the better), the chapter ring around the sub second dial is less prominent and a little thinner (I think for the worse!) and the 2 on the 12 is shaped a little better and is a little "flatter" and more precise. Overall, I like the improvements. What do you think?

I'm pretty pleased with the upgraded dial and hands.  The differences are subtle, but the combination of the "sharper" twelve and the slightly more sculpted hands combine to make an already elegant watch just slightly more refined.

I debated getting my dial replaced with the silver one but chickened out at the last minute! I may have to get a second Mayu now that I have seen your pictures!

I have the white gold Mayu with white lacquer dial - I think you have this one too?

Mine is a very early one and looks a little primitive compared to the new ones I've seen - they've definately upped their game!

I love mine though - nearly three years old and I still get just as much pleasure from it as I did when it was new.

That strap does look good though - ABP?

A representative from Moser explained that it is a set of wheels and pinions that make up a part of the train but are not related to an 8-day power reserve. There was apparently a friction concern with the original.

and they blew me away. I had to be brief as I was with my 3 year old, but WOW. Some of the most sublime and truly luxurious watches I have ever seen... Keep that one!

CaliforniaJed and I were just talking about these changes on his Mayu, which just returned from servicing.  I like the new, flatter "12" a lot.  The Mayu is a ridiculously attractive piece.  I just love it!  The palladium/fume version is my favorite.

Is it mandatory for the "upgrade" if once you send back the watch to the manufacturer?

I am also curious about the 8 days wheel change. Is this watch capable of 8 days power reserve after the "upgrade"?

When I inquired, Moser replied with the following:

8 day wheel—this is a special set of wheels and pinions that make up a part of the train.  Although it is referred to as “8 day wheel” it has nothing to do with an “8 day feature”

Mayu is my favorite today as well as Chopard Quattro.







I am not sure the difference of the hands and dial - how did you find out the new version is different?  Just curious.  I am happy with how it is now (enamel dial), but I might look into the possibility
