Dear VC Enthusiasts,

Yesterday, I noticed for the first time, on the VC website, that a 38 mm, manual Patrimony Traditional is being offered in platinum with a grey dial (Reference 82172/000P-9811).  It is stunning and has just joined my wish list.

The VC website proclaims the model "New," but does so for models introduced at SIHH in both 2012 and 2013.  I've seen no press release or other announcement about this reference.

Does anyone know when it was released or the retail price?

As to your question, I don't much regret selling the automatic Patrimony Traditional.  I thought the crown and date window were each too small, and I replaced it with a Patek 5107P, which I prefer.

The manual Patrimony Traditonal has been very appealing, as the absence of a date seems fine to me for a dress watch to be wound and worn on occasion.  Now that it is available in platinum, it checks all the boxes on my checklist as a timeless example of perfect design.

there is a Boutique Exclusives Patrimony Traditionelle Chronograph, and there are several new ladies models in the Patrimony Traditionell collection with Calibre 4400.

As an existing owner of the Patrimony Traditionelle with Calibre 440 in RG, I must say I love the PT version with grey dial.

I've come around to the view that 38 mm is just right for a dress watch (by which I mean a watch for staid but not black tie occasions).

My highly opinionated, completely personal size guide follows:

  Dress watch:  37-38 mm, preferably platinum

  Business watch:  39-41 mm

  Sports watch:  40-42 mm

I would even go for a smaller diameter for dress watches, and a tad bigger size for sports watches, though.
