Thirteen years into the DLC experiment
Just realized that its been thirteen years since I had the Overseas treated to a Diamond-Like Carbon coating. Held up really well considering the adventures we've shared.
In 2016 it came along when we climbed in Tibet. Is it perverse to admit it gives me some satisfaction to know this Gen I OS reached the same altitude as the Overseas Everest (albeit on a different mountain) some years earlier and with none of the hoopla?

For a time I despaired
VC would never see the Overseas as more than the "sporty" watch they advertised and accept it as a true adventure watch. After revealing I wore another Gen I to the summit of Aconcagua in South America, VC offered to lend me a new Gen II for my Denali climb. The offer was withdrawn just before departure, apparently they no longer felt it was the image they wished to convey, so I didn't bother to ask again before heading to the Himalayas. Besides, I was eager to test out this DLC mod. Nevertheless, it was with equal parts irony and relief that I received the news of VC's plans for the Everest watch a few years later.

Watch looks killer this way and the adventures you had with it "elevate it" even further... bravo! May I ask who performed the coating for you?
It was a research project
by a carbon nanotechnology firm that typically treats precision tools and surgical instruments. This was a one-off project and they do not offer their services for watches unfortunately. I believe there are firms out there that will, you'll have to search.

I didn’t realize earlier Overseas version had numbers on the dial. Very impressive DLC version.
There were two colors available
for the military or Arabic dial on the Gen I Chronometer, black and blue. There was also a black military dial available on the Gen I Chrongraph.

The watch that might have been
Another funny story behind this watch! When the head of VC design first saw my creation he physically recoiled and said only "brutal". His younger design staff, however, were quite enthusiastic and with their assistance using the design software I created a DLC version of the current Gen II Chronograph. What do you think, would it have appealed to VC clientele?
