I came across this Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer at a museum and was shocked. I'd never seen one and assume they're fairly rare, though I wouldn't know. The museum didn't have any detailed information about it in particular, but they did explain what it does and how it works—not news to me! So I wonder, does anyone know about these or have a helpful link that has information on them?
Not that rare; I have a Glashutte Original
Mine is quartz, not mechanical but its purpose and casing is the same — accurate timekeeping in marine environments without outside influence (cellular, GPS) sources.

UN Marine chronometers are not that rare, I had found a chart showing the Serial Numbers and the production dates, unfortunately I can't find it anymore. I will search my archives and try to share
On top of my head, 1852 should have been produced around WWI, to be confirmed !

Top right corner table (sorry it is in German), but states that #8512 is rather from +/-1958 (my 1st assumption was completely wrong !), and you can guess from the table that around 10,000 were made, so that makes them relatively rare indeed.

Yes you are right, I mixed up 1852 with 8512 !! My bad, it is from the early 20's indeed !
