a picture from this summer's vacation -- it's beautiful but the lake is deceptive, it's always so cold that it's unbearable to swim, even in the middle of the summer.  the little waves are from me skipping rocks

Grand Marais is a very small town on the northern tip of state of Minnesota on the shores of Lake Superior.  Google Maps view here.

Grand Marais MI  or MN?  When I was much younger I swam in Lake Superior and agree with you that it's very cold.... Pick a hot summer day and have a blanket on the shore.  I am from that part of the world and spent quite a bit of time in Wisconsin, U.P., Minnesota, and southern Ontario...

It's a beautiful photograph... and I see you were using the X100S - good choice ; )

The soft tones (on my monitor) really add to the feeling of the image... lovely

before i moved to minneapolis a few years ago i watched an andrew zimmern show where he did an adventure around MN and two years ago my wife and i made a similar journey, incidentally it's becoming a sort of a yearly tradition since we went two in a row now.
this year i did not go swimming, last year i did go swimming, but that was mostly because i stepped foot in the water and slipped on the rocks and got submerged, it was fidget. the best part was coming out and laying out on the black rocks that were very warm from the sun, but i never forget how cold that water was.

While at UW Madison [I think it was 1971] I remember driving up to watch our [ice] hockey team play the University of Minnesota... unfortunately our car's heater was broken. It was much colder than Lake Superior... I think I am still trying to warm up.

I just read that Minneapolis will not have a white Christmas... hopefully later in the season.

I would have thought more humid and swamp like from the picture rather than cold Lake Superior. 

it was very hazy/foggy that day, but this is from ~July 4th this year. I don't think the temperatures got above 60F (15C) the few days that we were there.
