Looking at this photo, I realize I prefer the proportions of the S34's smaller dial. Not as noticeable in the metal.

A personal favorite: the RD Sympathie S34 in rose gold, one of twenty-eight, ca. mid-1990s to turn of the 21st century. (I have the date of production somewhere in the handwritten papers, but I'm too lazy to dig it up right now.)

Yes, I feel the Sympathie really lost someting when they moved to a round crystal.
Nonetheless, the shaped crystal must have been a bear to produce, and I quail at what would happen if I damaged it. Replacement seems unlikely.

All I can say is that one of these days I will have one.
Actually I was excited about five or six years ago to
have been offered one in white gold with a black dial,
but the condition stated was not (at least in my book)
what it was, so I returned it. I'm sure you know that
Sympathies with the crystal following the shape of the
bezel are the special ones. If you look at an Illinois
Jolly Roger, you'll see as watch from the 1920's that
is perhaps the inspiration for the Sympathy.

Getting neo-vintage pieces like this in decent condition can sure be tough. I actually obtained a white gold, black dial S37 in good condition for my wife recently, but things like this come up once in a blue moon. I hope you'll eventually get lucky and find one!
