Found my next Patek
After and trying on anything and everything when it comes to ACs and PCs the battle was between these two..
the 5205 is great and art deco'ish but i've never been too keen on the bezel and the concave case
the winner, the 5146G creme dial, a more classic Patek and at 39mm it is made for my wrist. brown or black strap, it is a killer dress watch, whereas the 5205 is more smart casual
love them or loathe them, the 3, 6 and 9 work very well on the creme dial, and the chapter ring is the dog's bollocks to look at
on order, now just a question of when the email appers in my inbox...

You are right 5140P is an absolute killer
I just tried one at an AD in Las Vegas last week.
Everything in this watch is perfect... except the price which out of reach for me at this stage! (I wish I could have jump on it and grab it for me).
Since my recently acquired 5110P I can't stop dreaming of these gorgeous blue dials (5140, 5100, 5070...).
It is good to have dreams and make them become true, but in the mean time Aaaargh !
Are you sure you want to go for a 5146G now and not save "a bit" more and go for a 5140P?

I have tried this one on a few times.....I love the cream dial. Also agree that for the smaller wrist, 39mm is a perfect size.

it is the most common AC (if there is such a thing?) but it has the Patek DNA through and
through and i kept coming back to it. by going a light dial i hope i have future-proofed it for when my eyes are old and useless!

People tend to compare 5146 with 5035, the latter having the reputation of the first AC produced.
I quite like the 5205. For one simple reason. Reading the calendar is fast. Just stare at the top windows, read from left to right and you get them in a Day/Date/Month format.
For instance Sat 18 Mar. Very direct.
As for the 5146, it's a tiny weeny bit slower. That's when the minute hand runs over the month dial and blocks the needle.
That's just my 2 cents opinion.

The 5205g is a winner - it can be for more formal suits with the lighter dial or for smart casual with the dark dial.
The concave bezel is a clever way of avoiding hairline scratches when donning a long sleeve shirts.
The dial in the middle allows one to know if it is am or pm.
Just the same, there's no right or wrong answer to a Patek acquisition. It is all a matter of taste and utility !

I have the same and received many compliments. Though I recognise that the 5205g is a contender, somehow it does not sit very well on some wrists. As they say, there is a patek for everyone, and yours is just meant for you. Enjoy !

I know how hard your decision making has been but, imo, I believe that you have made the right decision.

Beautiful pieces. All different in style.
I see a "petite complication", a world timer and a grande complication. The 5140 can be considered a grand complication piece ? Is it in LE ? Love the dial. Shimmering satin blue. Alluring, sexy and sophisticated. Mesmerizes me.

None of those is a limited edition:
Ref. 3712 was produced just less than a year from 2005-2006. Ref. 5131G is a regular production piece but not the most common reference around and 5140P is a Grand Complication and the production numbers are not huge.
These three watches cover nicely most of my needs.
