5960P feel
I have been considering a 5960P with blue dial for a while - I simply love the color combinations of the dial and sub-dials with the metal and the blue strap... To me it's the nicest 5960 so far (new R with all black dial is also a killer

).Having said that, I've only tried on the watch very briefly twice at an AD but got the impression that the watch is quite thick/tall (relative to surface). When I had it on the wrist (after studying the case thickness) I got a creepy feeling that it was a bit top heavy. When I left the AD I was unsure of whether it actually didn't fit/feel right or if it was only my subconsciousness trying to make up excuses not to buy the watch.
So this goes out to anyone who owns/owned a 5960:
- How's the feel of the case/watch (not thinking aesthetics)?
- Do the relative case proportions look/feel right in real life?
- Do any of the gold models feel more right in terms of weight/weight distribution than the Pt?
Any other observations on the 5960 in general are OFC also welcome!
I have a ALS Dato Perp Pt and that has a very thick case but the case design is so good that it simply feels great when on the wrist. In my experience case design is so important for the feel/ergonomics in thick/heavy watches but unfortunately it takes more than 10 minutes trying/wearing to separate the decent from the very good...
PS I have quite bulky (male) wrists.
Any input would be highly appreciated!!!
I am not an an owner, just a tester.
I tried this watch so many times that I quite know it well.
The proportions are, IMO, better than a Datograph ( and don't get me wrong, I love, absolutely love the Dato, well, the first one ).
Now, it depends on your wrist. Mine is 17 cm big, which is a kind of average size, for a wrist, and I have no problem.
One advice: If you have a weird feeling, do never forget that, most of the time, the first feeling is the good one.
So, you should pass on it.

... having worn as a daily beater for a while the 5960R than took the platinum.
There is no debate that the gold is lighter, therefore more comfortable. But keep in mind that the design of the case and the lungs is so good that this watch is very comfortable, even in platinum. Actually it should be more comfortable that the data, that doesn't sit as well on the wrist as the 5960.
The thing is not about if gold is more right or no, or weight distribution, its about if you wear your watch tight or if you give it too much space to play on the wrist. If so, you will feel the density of the platinum.
As for the blue, i agree with you, its the nicest 5960 for me too, but mainly because i love their blue dials, they are magical. The grey is gorgeous, but more chic and classy. Rg is nice too. Basically, any 5960 you take you can't go wrong.
Last thing, i believe in 1st impressions, usually for me they are the best ones. Before all the rationalizing comes into play. In the end, buying a watch is an emotional thing. Follow your instinct.

it is heavy
I tried it couple times and for me its in fact a bit heavy considering its size, I own an RG ROO and the 5960p feels pretty much the same weight imo.

I knew I'd get slapped with the first impression/initial feeling thing... I must say that feeling only crept up on me after leaving the shop, which is also why I might peg it on my subconscious (financial) self preservation instincts
Hmm must go back and try it on again and see if I can suppress those instincts next time...

Proportions of the 5960 on the wrist are
nearly perfect.
However, if you already own a Dato, you will be unhappy with the stiff pusher feel of the 5960.

Agree it feels a bit hard for some reason. Mine is a Dato perpetual and I almost get the feeling that the "normal" Datograph has an even smoother pusher feel than my Dato perp, is that a known fact?
It's fine
It does ride high and the platinum version is heavy, but I love the watch. To me comfort is not an issue wit the 5960. It's fine. Full disclosure, however, I don't use it as an everyday watch.

... for me the 5960P wears very comfortable. But I am used to heavy watches and like the haptics of heaviness.
And I wear all my watches relatively tight so they can´t move to glide down the wrist or tip around.
Compared to other heavy watches (like GO Senator Rattrapante Pt. e.g.) the 5960P is even more comfortable imo.
You will have to try it again and especially take the time to adjust the strap properly, considering that it´s quite stiff when new...

I love this original version of the 5960P. It's really my favorite. I don't wear the watch tight and still don't find the weight a problem.
Ended up with this one...
Before I say anything else, I saw a watch that I've never laid eyes on before (at least not live)... And then I fell inn love. Forget the 5960P, forget the ALS Datograph, etc etc... I saw a FPJ Octa Calendrier and it aroused a feeling in me that I didn't feel for a long time.
Long story short, no 5060P, " only" an FPJ Octa Calendrier Pt...
