I did end up buying the black one...
I thought that it was a more balanced dial with the all red chrono marker and the white on black date
which matches better the dial.....
However both are beautiful and no matter which oe you end up buying you will definatelly not
regret it....

although a cool, probably MORE sporty watch than blue... I much prefer the blue... completely subjective question. No bad choice here!
Patek 5980 1a blue dial or black dial ?
Hi i'm new to this site. I'm a huge fan of Patek and own a few gold models but would like to purchase a steel one as well. I'm debating between a blue dial 5980 or black dial 5980. Please let me know your thoughts.

The watch looks great on your wrist thanks for the pic. My dealer only has a blue one in stock and I want to wait and see a black dial first hand as well. The blue dial is beautiful of course but worth waiting a month to make the right choice.

Personally I'd take the black and PP ended with the black too (IIRC) while most preferred Blue.

Not having seen the black dial in the flesh............
But having had another look at some of the photos of both the blue & the black dial 5980.
My choice would be for the black dial.
My reasons as already stated, I like the white on the black for the date, the red hand on the chronograph appears more legible and I prefer black or dark colours for the dial.
