and one watch only from this point forward, what would it be ( No back-ups while your one and only is being serviced)?  I would suspect that most folks here have more than one watch ( can be any brand), so it is not the piece you would want, rather one of the pieces you currently own which you would have to rely on for the rest of your life. Understand that this piece would have to be dependable, reliable, and servicing are all factors to consider.

So, what would it be?

Good question as I have often wondered the same.... BTW what about you???? And most likely one of the ones on the top row.....( I do love my Rolex daytona's though)

It would be my 5960p so I could keep track of the days.. But otherwise way too difficult....

I have a hard enough time picking out a watch I want to wear each day and by the looks of your watches, I'd never get out of the house. But if I could only have one that had to meet the criteria, I think it would be a Rolex of some type. I have a Patek bracelet watch from the '80's with a link style bracelet which has served me well for 25 years with absolutely no problems, a manual wind Blancpain chrono for 15 years, IWC Mark XII for 15 years, several Rolexes for 5-10 years.. all with no problems. But, several other more complicated pieces which have had some issues, but nothing major.

I received a book several years ago, "Collecting, an unruly passion"....I read the first 2 pages, had me pegged spot on and decided not to read any more.

I hope I'm never in a position to have to get to just one watch because I like them all.

those other though should become more Pateks!

... and 'that this piece would have to be dependable, reliable, and servicing are all factors to consider', I'd choose one of my solar G-Shocks over the rest.

If I crash landed in an airplane and was stuck in a deserted island without running water and electricity, at least I'd be able to tell what the time is at night and not have to maintain a calendar.  Thus, I would need a perpetual calender minute repeater wristwatch!  Out of those, the 5074 floats my boat! 

Boy Scout Motto; "Be Prepared"   That's a great excuse for purchasing a 5074! 

The 5074 is not water resistant.  Perhaps I should get a 5140, but then I won't be able to tell what the time is at night. 

In any case, love them all!  A calendar would be very necessary! 

The feel is not quite solid as big pieces like 5960, 5970. It's therefore easier to wear (gonna to wear it every day). It's rose gold so it's eye-catching, yet warm and elegant, fit for all occasions. It's a perpetual calendar, so it's very useful. I have a small wrist, so I don't need bigger models like 5140.

5038 and 5039 are alternatives, but I don't think their beautiful hobnail bezels can last for a life time if I wear them to work and play every day.  So, here's my vote:

     

Wasn't aware of that model, looks like a good choice. I love my 5711G but it's pretty weighty.

It would be the Seiko Spring Drive Sonnerie, But What I do have sorry it ain't a Rolex, or Patek ect LOL. Is this Seiko Monster.

My wife asked me the same question and I couldn't answer. The best I could do is have a top 3.

it will definitely be Dufour Simplicity.
If it must be a Patek, it can be either 5970 (any combo), 5078P (White Dial) or 5101P.....either one of it will be perfectly fine.

The case is almost scratch proof.  It is super light.  And it is water resistant 50m.  Not to mention the beautiful hand wound movement.

If it has to be a Patek, my favorite is the 5078P enamel dial.

I know crazy, my Tag Aqua Racer beater is VERY reliable.  Not my fav but has a Chrono and can get wet all day long.
