I have waivered on the Aquanaut for the past year or so, myself. The trouble is I keep wanting some other watch more when it comes down to getting one. It is after all, a fairly simple time-only piece in SS (although I think you may be after the new RG model, Dje), and there are many other SS watches with far more interesting movements than the 324, with additonal complications, etc. -- it becomes hard to justify spending the money on this PP, unless one really just wants to own a PP. In that price range and below, there are just so many options from so many brands. That said, I really do like the design of the Aquanaut, perhaps because it is in some ways so atypical of PP -- a reason why many PP loyalists have shunned this model in the past -- but also just because it is a cool design and very distinctive. I am not sure I wll ever get this model as the constant hesitation must be telling me something. I look forward to seeing it on your wrist someday, as that may provide inspiration for me. I tend to like the watches you choose, and am currently after one in particular. LOL.

I’m a bit surprised that the Aquanaut is seen by so many as the best entry level PP. I would have thought it would be Calatrava all the way, or maybe an annual calendar. These, IMHO, typify PP much better than the sportier models. My first & only PP was a toss- up between the 5119g, 5196P & 5146g. The 5196P won. A total classic & I’m certain it will pass down to the next generation rather than be traded in for an upgrade at any later stage.

When someone says "Patek Philippe", I don't think the Aquanaut would be the first watch that would come to mind. The Aquanaut is not the best representative of the brand.
A Calatrava would be a much better representative. Of the current line up, I would chose the 5296 non-sector as the single most representative entry level Patek Philippe watch.
I think the 5085/1a represents a great value and has many of the feature PP owners desire along with an attractive price-point on the secondary market.
just perfect -
