An intriguing case shape.
I'm not entirely sold on the shape of this case, but the Patek Philippe Ref. 1499 is so rare that I wanted to highlight it nonetheless.
I'm sure some vintage Patek enthusiasts among us will also be interested, particularly since it's a reference equipped with the legendary caliber 9-90.

I like how in vintage watches you just accept the marks and dings but we try to be so protective of our new watches so they don’t get scratched..
Imagine if we had a time machine and could whisper to Patek's chief designer.
Transform this old-style design into a more modern one.
Be bold and classy.

While probably I was a bit sad to let it go, historically I became more captivated by watches with complications.
I understand that,
even if I can only observe that I find myself mostly attracted to watches without or with very few complications. Couldn't explain why (and don't know if it will last).
When I first started collecting Pateks I only bought time only vintage Pateks. In the mid 90s when the 5035 was introduced and I bought
one it set me on a different path - a greater emphasis on more modern and more complicated.

It's a journey indeed and I'm curious to see how my tastes will evolve (or remain the same).

The scalloping on the case top doesn’t seem to have any functional reason…
So pure design. And while from the top it looks intriguing, from the side it somehow doesn’t gel with the lugs IMHO 🤷🏻♂️ But an intriguing watch for sure 👍🏻
Yes, the shape doesn't seem to be 100% convincing.
But to get a true idea of how it really looks a hands-on experience would be necessary.

Beautiful example of a saw cut and welded case.
Today, everything is examined through the CNC machines lens.
This watch is a perfect example of a lost art that is under appreciated.
I would have love to witness the manufacturing of the crystal.
