Patek Philippe

Hi everyone, i am considering the 5711/1R as a first all gold watch. I have someone offering it to me. I own few nautiluses, complications and a 5270P so never owned a full gold watch and i am just thinking if i should own one.
If anyone have any feedback or insights, i would appreciate it.

Life’s too short to ponder if one should wear all gold. Gold is a symbol of living life to the fullest. I would wear a full gold watch (if i had the chance )=D

If it were me, I'd get something else.

RG case matches the dark dial very well. The gold bracelet has good heft for wrist presence.

In todays world it’s a target for thieves. I’d go something more under the radar. Gold case leather band Rolex Rootbeer. Maybe an independent. For that kind of money you have choices (and I agree that it’s wildly overvalued at the moment)

A beautiful watch, but for 160-180k you basically get a very basic Patek with a lot of gold. If price further drops by approx 50% the watch will be a more durable deal. Now it is a way to burn money, while
looking at an aesthetically pleasing watch (I hope you wanted the honest opinion…)

But still an iconic watch… not sure it would drop more but i can be wrong. Regardless, i am still thinking of an all gold watch so this is on the top of the list. I am also considering the 5740… but thanks for everyone feedback. I am still assessing both the 5711/1R and the 5740 and then will decide if i will pull the trigger.

… makes much, much more sense. It is rarer, much more refined, much more important for Pateks history (first PP in a sports watch) and probably max 50k more expensive. A 5740 is in a whole different league 👍

As noted elsewhere in the replies it beautifully designed with the rose gold bracelet and brown dial/face. While all gold I would say it is not too blingy as other iconic all gold bracelet watches and be. Like it's steel brethern the proportions are perfect. Slides wonderfully under the cuff.

… might also depend on what other watches one wears. The thread owner wrote that he owns several complications and a 5270. Based on my own experience, in this case, you just cannot fully enjoy a 5711R you bought at 160-180k… When looking at the beautiful but simple and not rare watch you will always be remembered that you paid far too much for it…

Might be different for sports watch collectors, of course.

If one wants a timepiece that is out of production at (least currently) , and who know what if any successor will look like I would submit the value and the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This is irrespective of any other timepieces he/she may have. I was fortunate to get mine at retail. But if you want something bad enough that is not produced anymore then you either pay what the market is or you go without.

… only in this case the market prices have been highly volatile recently. Peaking at maybe 230-240, now down to 180k (or maybe 160k).

Personally, I would expect prices to decline further, also as the 5711 market in general has been getting much weaker over recent months.

I agree that the watch is nice. Just wanted to point to the pricing aspect above.

At list price (as in your case) it would be a no brainer, of course.

Yes. Once you tried the gold 5711, the pandora box will open up just for you,  I am afraid you will not go back to regular steel or white gold piece anymore

I simply think 5980R is better one and I prefer more considering the beautiful black face which contrast more to gold and chrono function.
(It is just my taste)
