My Dad passed along to me his Golden Ellipse before he passed away many years ago. What’s really cool is that he not only kept all the papers (and leather holder) but he also kept the Patek Philippe retail price list from 1985….I wish I could get in my time machine and go back and pick up a few pieces…..
Wow…I see a 3800/1A was $3950 in 1986 which translates to around $11,000 in 2022 dollars…yet a Nautilus MSRP is around 3x at $30k. Which means a watch purchased now will be retailing for at least 3x in the year 2058!!
You’re getting 3x the CNC machinery 3x the marketing spend 3x the IG hype (make that 3 million x) 3x the profit margin (at least) (those megayachts don’t buy themselves) 3x the wait for servicing 3x the ultrahypermegaluxury …
(I suppose this goes some of the way to answering those people who say that prices should rise to market equilibrium. They’re already way up: the industry is just sharing the profits with the speculators.)
