Before all this noise of the last few years I would say it’s always been a watch appreciated by collectors and by those drawn to enduring design. Like the Royal Oak, it’s a classic.
I also think that until you have one on the wrist it’s hard to truly appreciate the design, or the integrated bracelet. Further, this is only true in my opinion for the 5711 and 5712 as once we move onto the beefier Nautilus the elegance of the watch is lost. At that point it’s just another fat sports watch of which there are hundreds more.
It wasn’t until I spent some time with a friends 5712 that I truly appreciated the watch.
In any event it’s all moot, as the Nautilus ship is beyond all but a few collectors now.
