Not a nautilus fan either. More of a Royal oak guy. Haven’t handled anything but a 5712, and it left me cold after wearing it for a couple of weeks.

I am in the same boat - It's a watch that simply does not appeal at all to me. Aquanaut yes but not the Nautilus. Why? Hard so say, someone in this thread said it is ugly. I would not go that far but rather say that this design simply does not please the human wrist. The shape surely works when sitting on a stand or in a box to be looked at. But it does not work on the wrist - at least I have not seen a single picture where the shape of the case makes any wrist look nicer. Good for value creation but not for overall appearance. IMHO
Someone dared to place that statement on WPS, and then your moderator even moved it from HoMe to the Patek forum -- I can already envision First Amendment scholars building entire careers out of this! ;-))

The thing is, Patek lets you buy a 5531 at MSRP, while the same is unlikely to be true for the guy who spent $490k with Antiquorum for a 5711....;-))
First, the “wildly popular” is a distraction and that has little to do with the merits of the watch.
Before all this noise of the last few years I would say it’s always been a watch appreciated by collectors and by those drawn to enduring design. Like the Royal Oak, it’s a classic.
I also think that until you have one on the wrist it’s hard to truly appreciate the design, or the integrated bracelet. Further, this is only true in my opinion for the 5711 and 5712 as once we move onto the beefier Nautilus the elegance of the watch is lost. At that point it’s just another fat sports watch of which there are hundreds more.
It wasn’t until I spent some time with a friends 5712 that I truly appreciated the watch.
In any event it’s all moot, as the Nautilus ship is beyond all but a few collectors now.
I’ve always liked the simplicity of the Nautilus. But I still opted for the Aquanaut first. While I wouldn’t trade my Aquanaut for a Nautilus, I would still love to pick one up someday if the prices come back to Earth or if I can get one at retail.
I prefer the silver/white piano dial. And I also look forward to seeing the next generation (6711?) Nautilus.

To each his own ! Your comment on the integrated bracelet is
well taken. Other brands also have watches this feature. Why do you not like integrated bracelet on 5711 ?

it is integrated bracelets in general. Just something I simply don't care
for on any watch. For me to buy a watch with an integrated bracelet
there would have to be something really special about the watch. So far

Totally agree
Never liked any of the elite sport watches personally. I get real tool watches for sports/diving. Add in the laughable prices for the Nautilus considering what you are getting. Makes me dislike it even more.
Of course it's overrated...
Esp the green... OMG... but no one cares... if the bracelet is flimsy and the movement pedestrian... Or that the RO smashes it on every level... NO. One. Cares...
(but I have noticed the RO achieving equal and even beyond equal aftermarket... to my astonishment... but absolutely deserved... OK rant over.)
But I do have some hope the next Naut will be higher grade... I think Thierry is reaching higher recently... yet he knows he's gotta milk this one for all it's worth... and I would too.

I remember when they were first releaed
There wasn't much demand for them. Used were about $9000 to $10,000, the quartz was $5,000 pre-owned. The Aqua resonated with me more and many years ago had one for me and the smaller matching mechanical for my Muse (now wife). Got bored, plus they are a bit fragile so we sold 'em after a couple of years.
Imho the AP looks nice, if dated. The hot model I have is the modern evolution of the design with an epic movement and 100m WP. The Bvlgari's modest price embarrasses the far higher priced AP and PP.

I enjoy form watches of the 1910-1920s, and of the 1960-1970s. Such watches were of all market segments. The good ones either set new trends or broke old molds. The Nautilus does neither. It’s a safe watch, clearly now in more sense than one.

I’ve never understood Nautilus fever. To my eyes they just look a little, well, boring frankly. Although better than the Royal Oak which is downright ugly.
I can think of countless watches I’d prefer to have for Nautilus money at RRP, and countless supercars I’d prefer to have for Nautilus grey market prices.
