I get snide remarks about the 5035 from many people here.....
The 5035 wears too small, the 5035 is ugly....... the 5035 is so wrong.....
Well..... let me tell you that this watch is the GREATEST HISTORICAL WATCH in modern times.
The 5035 bridged the gap between simple 3 hander Patek (say 3919) and the Perpetual Calendar (say 3940) !
Before this time you needed to go Perpetual calendar if you wanted a complication!
This watch changed the course of history.
It is very easy to criticise a watch from the side..... but I love this piece.
A few facts about this piece.....
1) it was made around the 315 movement..... no spacer rings or putting a small movement into a large watch. The 5035 was built around the 315 movement.
2) the designers tried to make it appear smaller !!!! They wanted it to be 36mm just like the legendary 3940 - hence the design cues - 19mm strap, 14mm buckle, inverted bezel, thicker to appear smaller, short length to make it seem smaller.
3) the 5035 is the greatest historical peice in modern times - this is the piece that started the "useful complications period"
I have seen many snide remarks on this forum and I must say this is the gravest mistake in history.

I had three 5035...
...all bought new from authorized dealers. None could keep time precisely. I kept on sending them back for regulation and they were never adjusted to any less than 12 to 20 seconds fast a day or more. Patek eventually had to make changes to the movement and launched a new reference. Never an apology or honest explanation, though. With respect, a lemon as far as I’m concerned. Never bought another Patek since.
I have never had any problems with my 5035J - infact it just had a Patek service in Singapore....... first service since 1999 when sold in London.....
I of course never buy new........
I think you need to appreciate that the first is always difficult...... but who really cares.....
The historical significance outweights a few seconds a day !!!!!

What good is a watch that can’t keep time properly? Furthermore,
upon a visit to the factory, I was told privately that the movement had some”issues” that needed to be corrected. Nevertheless, they launched the watch and sold them. A lemon.

No doubt the 5035 is an important watch historically and in fact the first PP I bought and i still own it. But the 5146 is nicer looking. Regarding your price estimate in 10 years time. Maybe but I don’t think it will be the case. To many made of this reference. But hopefully for you your predictions comes to fruition..
Honestly, despite my wide-open mind and my genuine, non-PC heart...I don't think I can really agree on (at least) the following two statements:
1) Disliking the 5035 is the "gravest mistake in history" (!)
2) "The Chinese" like yellow gold, and "the Chinese" have yet to discover non-steel watches (!!) ;-)
It's actually the 34th gravest, but let's not quibble ;-)

The 5035J was my first complicated Patek. No matter what, it just didn’t look good, the loom hands were less than appealing, the dial was overly crowded, and loom Roman numerals were dreadful. Sold it and got into more aesthetically pleasing pieces from Patek.
