Megane RS ...

 By: bimbeano : August 22nd, 2012-10:26
... i tried it once ... amazing car but i found the Clio to be more fun , i'm not really a huge turbo-fan ... though i could live with the Megane smile

I do have a lot of good memories on my Cooper D and friends Cooper esses ...

The Impreza P1 Prodrive is an icon too ... and a real beast ... difficult to keep up with in the country roads smile

But as many of my friends ownClio RS's ...

I'll stick to the Clio smile

i was looking for an R32 last year, but went for my subaru legacy instead

I had a few criteria. Large petrol engine, auto 'box, cruise control and if possible 4x4 road car. Sadly i only had £8k to spend and couldnt find a dsg R32 for the price, however i found a late 2006 subaru legacy 3.0l R spec B sedan. 25k miles from new and mint.
I have had it remapped and put in a performance air filter, plus a custom made air intake. It went from 245 bhp-270 bhp. As Bim will verify it is very fast and handles perfectly.
The only other upgrade i can or might do is a ss exhaust with sports cats and centre cat removed. Once tweaked again by the remapper it should reach 300 bhp.

More importantly, the economy has increased incredibly from ave 29 mpg to 34.5 mpg over a 210 mile journey and 32 mpg on same journey with 3 people and fully loaded with luggage. The exhaust will allow better breathing and also better economy.

Basically every car can be improved in every way by having a remap. I highly recommend it.

I'm now in the position where i cant use the power so have considered chopping it in for something more sensible, however after Bim and mrB paid a visit the other weekend we had a 40 mile high speed blat. Afterwards mr B asked ' do you still want to sell it ?'.

Needless to say i'm keeping it smile

So get a remap from a reputable VW specialist and feel the difference.

JDM bugeye, I had me one of those, with rally headlamps (cosworth made). JDMs had a close-deck EJ20, which is bullet proof and allow higer boost and bigger blow wink) Mine was putting out close to 400whp when it left for a new owner. Stick shift got too much in the end. Can u imagine a blown EJ30 ?!?

Not to mention, I ended with a bigger left thigh doing leg press every time the stick shifts !

The boxer burble is something u dun forget !

The stickshift is the main...

The stickshift is the main reason i didnt look at an Impreza blown or not. I have got to the stage in my life where a tiptronic auto is all i want. I did test a 2.5 turbo Forester with 4 speed auto. Very fast, but very noisy. Lots of road noise. Too much for me.
I've since found out that all other Foresters are pretty quiet so perhaps there was something wrong with it.
Very happy with my unblown 3 litre 6 pot :-)

As is typical in the car world. When they make something good they stop it and make something worse. Its happened to several models i've owned or liked.
Suzuki grand vitara XL-7
All Subarus,
You name it.

I have to show u something !

U said XL-7, so I give !

And  change of headers on your 6 pot will enhance the boxer burble.
My experience with de-cating is a significant loss of low end !
Having said that, that was an EJ20, the 6 potter might be different.

Have you dynoed the car?

Nice Xl  ! I love...

Nice Xl  !

I love the very torquey 2.7 V6. Only did 20 mpg in welsh mountains, but i should never have sold it even though it was a manual.
They stopped the XL-7 in 2006 in UK but carried it in Canada where it was made with a 3.6 petrol and much bigger body.

Such a loss.

You've got to park somewhere smile

Great looking rims! I think any pistonhead has had that experience...

there are some cars that you think you will love, based on photos and specs, but are "meh" in the seat, behind the wheel.

There are others that you just can't stop loving even if maybe there are others that are more tempting...

hey, come to think of it, reminds me of some women I know...

;-)

Thanks Doc !
