I have received news that my friend Norman Dewis OBE is very unwell. Norman is a fantastic man that has really lived life to the full and has had more than a few close shaves over his lifetime. For those of you that don’t know Norman he was Jaguars Chief Test Driver & Development Engineer. Born in 1920 he is is still enjoying his cars and driving, regularly traveling to race meetings and giving talks about his life experiences. Before he joined Jaguar, Norman flew Blenheim Bombers in the Second World War.
He accompanied Sir Stirling Moss on the 1952 Mille Miglia, a 1,000-mile race round Italy.
In 1953 at Jabbeke in Belgium he drove a Jaguar XK120 to 172.412 mph, a record for production cars. After the record the car was converted back to a road car and sold by Jaguar. In 1955 he drove a Jaguar D type at Le Mans.
My thoughts are with you at this time Norman. God bless.
