Once upon a time there was an 18 year old boy who got a pilot’s license for his birthday. Actually passed my pilot’s and driver’s test the same day 😊 Back in the day, I was dreaming of a Breitling. Knowing that it would probably remain a dream for many years, as the school fees for my studies abroad were quite hefty. Then I was surprised by my family on my graduation day with the Aerospace below. Not a very frequently worn watch nowadays but one that I was truly dreaming of and where it definitely came true.

In terms of dreams I realized myself, it would not be accurate to say that the Chopard LUC Chrono One, the first ‘nice watch’ I got for myself was a dream realized. I didn’t know I was dreaming of this particular one (all I was definitely dreaming of was a mechanical chronograph) and the process was too fast to get it into that category. But it’s a cherished watch irrespective.
The next dream, which took some time to realize (albeit in comparison to some later ones not so long), was the Grand Seiko SBGH035. The first modern Hi-Beat Special in steel, it got me weak at the knees the first time I read about it here and it stayed that way all the way until getting it. Finally managed to source one in Spain, after many unsuccessful attempts all around the globe 🌏

The third dream was another watch I found out about in relation with WPS - the elusive Seiko Izul SDAA001. It took me six years until one found me (actually was offered one, as opposed to finding it). A WPS member provided the necessary info and assurances to make me commit to it. And as it was Covid it took me another six months to take delivery. I even accepted paying Norwegian import duties on top just to get it sooner (went from EU to EU via Norway). What we do for our dreams 😂🤦🏻♂️

One that is well known here is the VC 1972 Prestige de la France. A watch I fell in love with the first time I saw it online, then doubly so after trying it on in the VC Boutique (actually in two Boutiques on two continents). I wasn’t in a position to commit then but some years later I was lucky to get one for myself to celebrate a significant career milestone. Came just in time, too 😁

Finally, the Chopard LUC 8HF. I have been fascinated by high beat movements since almost the beginning of my collecting and when the 8Hz Chopard came out I was hooked. The first series of 100 watches were quickly gone and for a long time there were none to be found in the secondary market as well. I have seen the all black ceramic one several times at boutiques but the PR indicator did not fully gel for me. After many, many years of searching I finally managed to see the titanium one live, at the Boutique in Moscow. It wasn’t the right time, though. Finally, after the most recent move was completed, Fortuna smiled upon me and an as new example was found in my current ‘resident country’, which I snapped up within minutes of it being posted online.
Are there dreams remaining? A handful but none of those would leave me greatly saddened, were they not to be fulfilled 😊
