Hi ahd,
Pleased to hear that you like the La Tradition. Abraham-Louis Bréguet is such an iconic figure in horology, and the architecture of his watches so characteristic, that many of us take enormous pleasure in wearing this watch.
I happen to like both versions of the La Tradition and more than most watches that are released in different metals these watches are very different. This is on both an emotional and aesthetic level. Breguet, the modern company, went to a great deal of effort to match the gold colour of the YG La Tradition to the original colours used by A.-L. Breguet himself. So even though the colour most closely resembles what we think of as yellow gold, it is unique. This colour, to me, is part of the history of Breguet that the Tradition series is trying to channel, as well as part of its charm.
I had made my mind up to get the YG La Tradition soon after it was released and then along came the WG version with its contrasting YG accents. I thought this was really beautiful, almost jewel like. It took me some time to decide that the YG version was the one that was the right choice for me on several levels.
Ultimately, of course, you need to try them both on. However, I feel that it is not just how they ‘look’ on my wrist, but how I connect to them emotionally. Watches to Purists are more than just fashion accessories.
A couple of other points. The parachute on the WG version is blued, which makes it stand out beautifully, but the original parachute on A.-L.’s watches was in steel. The silvered dial stands out more distinctly on the YG version of the watch and gets a bit lost on the WG.
So, IMHO, the YG is truly in the ‘tradition’ of Breguet and the WG is a nice piece of jewellery. These are the reasons I chose the YG watch, my first in this metal.
Enjoy the decision and thanks again for asking the question.
Andrew
Hi Nicolas,
You reminded me of a couple of other features of the WG La Tradition. One of the things I love about the La Tradition in general is the architecture of the gear and hand setting trains. Being rendered in YG, these stand out even more in the WG version, as does the complex reserve de marche planetary gear system on the back. The blued screws (and the parachute) also contrast wonderfully. This is probably what brings me to describe the WG La Tradition as ‘jewel like’.
As you say, they are both beautiful, and you really can't go wrong with either.
Andrew

Thanks vksl,
Very nice and a good reminder how the mechanical trains - going train and hand setting train on the back - are beautifully emphasised in gold (brass?).
Can you give us any pictures of the back?
Andrew
it appears more in line with the pocket watch movements by A.L.Breguet in my opinion. To me the Tradition is about bringing back the appearence and design of the Breguet pocketwatches and for this reason YG is the ideale metal to do so. The WG version has a more "contemporary" feel to me and personally I would be tempted if the wheels are rhodium plated as well.
Cheers,
Roger
WG makes the watch appear more, the blued skrues, whels, ect. + it looks nicer on the wrist, love the model..
In the 24 cities (totally different watch, its marine) its the YG that makes the watch so deep and detailed,
Did you notice that the tradition, handwound version has a strange size for breguet..37.. ??
Hasta lavista
Hi SuperlumiNova,
Given the supportive comments for both the YG and WG versions of the watch my take is that Breguet have been very successful in the choices made during the development of both models. We, the recipients of this, should be very pleased.
Regarding the 37mm case size (38mm for the automatic), I cannot comment on this choice except to point out that Nicolas Hayek is on record saying that the case dimensions were chosen because they provided the perfect proportions for the watch.
Bravo Breguet.
Andrew
I agree, They did a PERFECT job..
Breguets Tradtion models are quite unique, Theres nothing like them, both YG and WG are amazing, they are just so basic, simple, yet detailed, you get my point?
37 & 38, is quite small. They look bigger, thats really nice, its also a nice watch for the right lady, even its a gents.

… it would be interesting if someone could Photoshop a version of the WG La Tradition with the gear train in white metal (rhodium plated). As it is, I think I prefer the contrasts.
Andrew
Hi Aaron,
I was hoping someone would come up with a new image for us, but I can't let your skills go to waste.
This is from Alberto Schileo's first review of the watch a couple of years ago. I am sure he won't mind us using it.
Don't stay up too late, but I look forward to seeing what it looks like.
Thanks a lot.
Andrew

Thanks Aaron for ‘mocking up’ these La Traditions. “RT” planted the seed and I have been mulling over your images for a couple of days.
As I have said before, the WG La Tradition is like a little ‘jewel’ with all the colour contrasts and ‘sparkles’. I actually find the YG a bit more ‘understated’, which I guess seems odd for a gold watch.
Because the going train in the La Tradition is one of my favourite design features of the watch, I prefer the original WG version with the contrasting wheels. Your ‘rhodium plated’ versions are a bit too subdued to my eyes, although I prefer the darker “Rev 2” version.
Thanks again for doing this Aaron.
What do other ‘see’?
Andrew
The watch looks too boring if everything is all the same color. The contrast in the original works best IMO.
Only other Tradition version that would look better if there could be slightly more color added to the dial, whether it's changing colors of rubies, wheels, etc.
Cheers,
Anthony
