Description

The Patek Philippe 5522 is one of those rare casual elegant timepieces from a storied brand of formal elegant timepieces.  Having debuted at the 2017 Patek Philippe New York City Exhibition to the delight of watch collectors worldwide, it was immediately appreciated for its casual elegance, its modernly large 42mm size, and its undeniable cool aviator’s vibe.

The watch dial has highly luminescent applied hour markers in an art deco font.  The hour and minute hands are blued and each possess two luminous segments.  The bezel has an unusual "stepped" bezel that is an exquisite detail, somewhat similar to the 5070 and 5074 models.

The steel buckle has an unusual cantilever shape that faithfully resembles strap buckles used by military pilots for their equipment.

This significant timepiece is offered from its original owner and with a second black Patek Philippe supplied strap that is made to the exacting specifications of the 5522A, the standard brown strap is also included.  The timepiece is in excellent condition, as it has been meticulously cared for by a cautious and thoughtful individual.  It comes complete with box and papers.

With only 600 pieces of the 5522A ever produced, this is one of the finest time-only references from the Patek Philippe maison in recent history.  It is extremely desirable because of its unusually large size, its vintage aviator vibe, and its casual but elegant design.

Condition:  Watch is in excellent condition, very gently worn and seldom worn, part of a multiple watch rotation.  Watch has never been polished.  No case damage, never dropped, watch runs well, very accurate, achieves its full power reserve.  Sapphire crystal has no chips nor scratches and is in excellent condition.  The stepped bezel is in excellent condition and shows the watch was never polished.  Strap and clasp are in good condition with light wear.  Watch functions normally and keeps time well.

Provenance: Timepiece was purchased at an authorized dealer.  Watch comes with the original box and papers; papers are named and dated.

đź“– About This Reference

The Patek Philippe Ref. 5522A is a limited-edition timepiece released in 2017 to commemorate the 'Art of Watches Grand Exhibition' in New York. This model represents a contemporary interpretation of Patek Philippe's historical pilot's watches, distinguishing itself with a stainless steel case and a distinctive blue varnished dial. It was produced in a series of 600 pieces, exclusively available to the American market during the exhibition. This watch features a 42mm stainless steel case, housing the self-winding caliber 324 S. The movement is visible through a sapphire crystal case back, which is engraved with 'Patek Philippe New York 2017'. The dial is characterized by large, luminous Arabic numerals and broad luminous hands, ensuring high legibility. It is typically presented on a calfskin strap with contrast stitching. For collectors, the Ref. 5522A holds significance as a rare, market-specific limited edition from Patek Philippe. Its stainless steel construction, pilot watch aesthetic, and connection to a major brand exhibition contribute to its desirability. The watch's design offers a sportier and more casual alternative within the Calatrava family.
