Rare bird: Omega Speedmaster Perpetual

Introduced in 1991 and produced as a 50 pieces limited edition for the Japanese market and conceived to mark the 700th anniversary of Switzerland (1291-1991), the Speedmaster Perpetual ref. BA 175.0037 has a 39 mm case in 18k yellow gold, a gold dial with black hands and an unusual but original octagonal crown. It was one of the first Speedmasters without the Seahorse medallion.

Inside is the Omega cal. 1160, which is an ETA 2892 with both a chronograph and perpetual calendar module with moonphase on top. Interestingly, because the perpetual calendar plate is topmost, the correctors for the calendar display sit just under the rim of the bezel.

Japan had a huge Speedmaster following at the time, which is why this model was exclusively released there.

Absolutely stunning piece, imo.

Best to you all,
Emmanuel
