Hello All,
I have a Speedmaster Pro cal 861 that I have had for almost two years now. The watch runs fine, I have worn it maybe 9 months or so as I rotated it with my Seiko Prospex Marine Master 300M. The other day when I pulled it out from safe keeping and wound it up, the ticking sound was odd, it sounded like a trotting tick. After about 15 minutes or so this went away and it ticks fine now. But the ticking still does not sound as tight as I remember it when I first bought it. The watch runs fine, about 7 to 9 seconds fast per day when being worn all day and it sits face up over night. I was told by one of my dealer acquaintances that this could be a sticky hairspring, but from what I read about that a sticky hairspring would cause the watch to run about a minute or more fast per day as the balance amplitude would be much shorter.
Has anyone ever run across this? Is it time for a clean, oil, and adjust so soon? Could having kept it for a month or two without winding it caused the oils to stick? Again after the initial 15 minutes after I have wound it up from storage the trotting goes away but the ticking is still not as tight as I recall it to be. But it is keeping time within the expected limits.
Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Richard
