New Omega Seamaster American's Cup
OMEGA introduces new Seamaster timepiece in anticipation of 35th America’s Cup
The sporty timepiece commemorates the brand’s support of Emirates Team New Zealand OMEGA has long supported the able yachtsmen of Emirates Team New Zealand and the Seamaster Diver 300M ETNZ boldly celebrates the brand’s relationship with the renowned sailing team.
The OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M ETNZ has a black ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel with a polished diving scale whose indications have been created in relief using laser ablation. There is a dot at the top of the bezel at 12 o’clock which is coated with white Super-LumiNova and emits a green light.
The sand-blasted grade 5 titanium dial has applied indexes coated with white Super-LumiNova that emits a blue light. A silvery chronograph seconds track can be found on the outer edge of the dial; inside this ring is a matt titanium minute track. There are three sub-dials on the dial: a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock, a 12-hour recorder at 6 o’clock and a 30-minute recorder at 3 o’clock which also indicates the five-minute countdown to the start of a regatta. The 44 mm brushed grade 5 titanium case has pushers at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock that stand out with a red aluminium ring and matt black ceramic ring respectively. In fact, all of the elements that correspond to a chronograph function are coloured in red. There is also a helium escape valve with an integrated date corrector at 10 o’clock on the case.
The Seamaster Diver 300M ETNZ is presented on a rubber strap with a foldover clasp. The top part of the strap is black and has a subtle ribbed pattern, while the underside of the strap is red and has a design that is reminiscent of the sails on the team’s boat. This pattern ensures that water and air can pass freely underneath allowing the skin to breath.
Embossed on the screw-in caseback is the ETNZ logo – a special detail that establishes this timepiece’s connection to the world of sailing and underscores OMEGA’s support of the remarkable team. Protected by the caseback is the Co-Axial calibre 3330, a chronograph movement complete with an Si14 silicon balance spring.
Emirates Team New Zealand and OMEGA
OMEGA is proud of the partnership with Emirates Team New Zealand that started with Sir Peter Blake's American's Cup campaign in 1995. The team handily won the Cup, a feat it would repeat in 2000. When Sir Peter retired from professional sailing after that campaign, OMEGA continued to support him as one of the main sponsors of his Blak expeditions project until his untimely death in 2001.
Since then, OMEGA has continued its support for ETNZ and the brand looks forward to cheering it on in its next challenge for the America’s Cup in 2017 and the preceding races in the America’s Cup World Series.
