Omega

My attention was attracted by the following Constellation offered currently on Ebay: I was surprised to see that the dial has a red Omega logo but the watch is automatic. I thought that the red logo was only used with electronic or quartz mechanisms. What...  

i 'think' that the logo is from an F300 and has been applied as the 12 marker, however, i have never seen Omega use their logo as a 12 marker before, especially at an angle like the one in the picture. they would usually have a double marker at 12 with th... 

this is something they did for reasons i'm not 100% sure of. i initially thought it was because they couldnt cope with the demand for constellations so made some that werent chronometer certified, but i now think it was the beginnings of their years in th... 

There is nothing wrong with the logo being at twelve. I have seen many examples such as this one: I do not think the dial has been messed up with, it looks ok to me. ...  

If you look at the 2 watches there are big differences. Your second pic is an F300 so the logo is correct and it is also flush with the chapter ring, not applied as in your first example. The F300 is right and very nice, i still think the differences indi...

I think we should have an open-minded attitude towards things that may at first look a bit puzzling. If this were a F300 dial it would have the usual inscriptions that go with it (f300hz, electronic, chronometer, etc). It is obviously NOT a F300 dial, tho... 

Yes, we should be open minded when it comes to vintage omegas, but we should also look at our previous experiences. I have been collecting omegas for many many years and have never seen a red logo on anything other than F300's and quartz so i look at it f... 

The watch is not mine, it is currently on offer on Ebay and I must say that I am quite tempted to bid. That is why I wanted to enquire here if anyone else had seen a red logo on an automatic Constellation. I am like you, I have never seen a red logo dial ... 

I would ask for the case reference and look it up on the database. I am not an expert either as my main theme is from the 60's, but in the past i have owned many connies, from 60's to 80'quartz and the red logo on an auto is an anomaly i wouldnt be happy ... 

Do a Google search for "Omega Watch 166.0234". You'll find several examples, like this NOS version that sold recently: Dates from the late 1970's. Caliber 1012. However, it is not listed in the Omega Vintage Database for some reason. Hope this helps, ga...  

Well there you go, you learn something new everyday. I'm pleased to see that the watch is ok, it still shows that it pays to never say never when it comes to vintage Omegas. It also shows how much extra research can help when it comes to identifying somet... 

...especially the late 70s are not within the realm of many diehard Omega collectors, so you tend to find more experts who really know pre 70s watches than of this era. There were a lot of variants during this time too. Love that watch, BTW - I'd wear tha...
