Omega

Be carefull!

The Omega "bible" is a good book but as always: be carefull about what you read and see!

Not everything that is printed must be "the right thing" as we all know - Omega is not very picky in chosing pictures and there may be well  some examples showing restored dials! Even on their website (vintage watches division).

Concerning the Chronometer dials (30 T2 Rg and SC as well) which are discussed in a seperate thread: In the "Omega bible" there is at least one dial which is a later replica: picture/text  number 3611.

And there are 2 further dials which are suspicious for a redial:  # 2317  and   # 2374.  But I have not seen them "in flesh" yet. I am planning to visit the Omega museum this summer.

I remember the Omegamania catalogue which was made by Antiqu...  in cooperation with Omega. All the watches had undergone a close inspecton and service in the Omega factory!

There are several watches in this catalogue with undoubtedly REFINISHED dials - not mentioned with a single word in the item description!

If somebody takes the catalogue as a reference book for authenticity of dials (and fonts) -  outsch!!!

The best way is to build one´s own  "archive" with pictures of undoubted original dials.

There is nothing better than EXPERIENCE  and a good watch forum like this with people who know what they are talking about...

kind regards
