You have both cut your collections back quite a bit!

Maybe it's good that I came to Panerai so late that I didn't experience the exhilaration and pain of those earlier years. Until fairly recently, I thought they were too big and flashy, probably because a number of people I used to work with in the 1990s wore fakes and liked them for their 'impressive' visual impact. I was turned off. But then I began to understand the history (with your help) and to see the simple beauty of those early designs. In addition, Panerais are so different from other watches (aesthetically) that they can nicely complement a collection of traditional, smaller watches. For whatever reason, other large watches today often strike me as in-your-face, gaudy, and unattractive while Panerais seem big for reasons of legibility, history, and design intent. Maybe I'd be better off trimming my small collection too and adding a 5-digit Rolex or Patek (5127R) but there is still something unique and appealing about Panerai, despite its missteps.
