Officine Panerai

I am awestruck by the PAM 172!!!!!

On a wild leap of faith, I purchased a PAM 172 without ever having seen the watch in person.  I had tried on a Pam 192 and absolutely loved the tantalum case.  Thus, I hoped and prayed that I would also love the 172 and I blindly went ahead and bought it.

Well folks, the 172 has far exceeded my expectations!!!  The polished and brushed tantalum –- charcoal in color -- has a warm, liquid, molten quality to it that is indescribable.  In the right light, the blue hands have a brilliant, metallic appearance, not unlike the 249.  Most importantly, the combination of the dark charcoal tantalum case and the blue hands could not be more perfect.  I previously was not a big fan of Bases and Marinas (with certain notable exceptions), but the 172 has converted me.  It is so simple, yet so complex and mesmerizing.  What can I say . . . I love this watch!!!

I took a few photos last night, but I am not at all happy with the results.  I think I know what my mistake was and, after I get a couple of straps, I will re-shoot the watch.

Speaking of straps, I need some opinions.  I have already ordered a Simona vintage blue and a medium brown croc.  The guy who is making my brown croc strap also has a medium grey croc skin.  I think this watch might look unbelievable with a medium grey croc strap, with either blue or black stitching (I am leaning towards black stitching, as I already wear blue stitched straps on my 253 and my AP Scuba).  What do you think?  Can someone proficient in photoshop show me what it would look like.  Thanks.

Here are the (poor) photos I took of the watch last night.

Regards,

Craig
