ETA 6497 base
is great and has a lot of power to drive any kind of complication. However, out of the production line, there are various points that need to be optimized such as axial looseness, position of pallets, roundness of escapement wheel... There is a big gap between a 6497 and OP... You can see it in one glance if you use a Witschi or any watchmaker timing device.
Well, of course, I am not commenting how much this optimization is priced, as a Panerai is not only a movement, but in the end I can see that both of the Panerai I have (249 & 177) are going around the second per day. Well, far bellow the 1min per day limit I target for my watches.
