AFAIK, nobody changed the plexy for a sapphire.
Therefore, as Panerai released a close re edition ( sorry for the redundance ) of the original Cali, they thought ( and I agree ) that it would be better to have the Plexy.
I just regret to not have a solid case back.
Also, the plexy gives a superb look, very warm, to the whole watch, and especially the dial.
To have such a domed crystal is possible ( Refer to the 127 ) but very expensive.
so, the plexy solution is good, IMO.

Does anyone know why they put the plexiglass on the Pam249 and not use the crystal? does any one try to replace the plexiglass for a crystal?

Nobody replaced it...because there is no need to do it. And looks GORGEOUS
There is PLEXI in the CALI due to the historical focus of that piece.The original version was wearing plaxi also ( crystal was expensive and easy to break during tough period of war), so having PLEXI again is a tribute to the old days. I dont think anybod...

Would you change the emblem on your...Mercedes, Jaguar etc into a Toyota's one? Even with scratches (mine has some) it looks very...lived in. Ciao - Sergio

I will not replace the Toyota emblem on the Mercedes, but I might want to change the tires on the Mercedes......just like the idea of replacing the sapphire crystal for the plexy.......
I still believe.....
that the plexy gives the Cali its personality (that's more than a tire) but hey, whatever floats your boat, as they say..

It's because plexi is for real watch lovers, you really have to give it a lot of attention in order not to scratch it. Regards, George

I do not own the Cali, but I have A JLC tribute to Polaris, which also has a plexy crystal and which was also designed to pay a close homage to an historical piece. You do have to be more careful with respect to the crystal on these pieces, but it is wort...
Your comparison is very à propos, my friend.
