I can see why you would think the strap is curved, Michael, because . . .

 

. . . it appears curved in some of the photos, but from recollection, the strap is terminated in a straight line perpendicular to the edge. A thicker strap would have absorbed a bit of the gap, as the problem stems from the elongated lugs; in this photo of my late RGM 222, which has the same nominal case diameter as the Star 4810 and similarly elongated lugs . . .

. . . the custom C-F strap with 5 mm padding fills out the attachment end, eliminating much of the gap. No comments about the bright blue color, please ;-) . . . I selected the shade [#304 in the C-F catalog] from a photo provided by RGM, and it turned out to be lighter and brighter than expected, although it did nicely set off the blued hands . . . cordially, Art
