You usually can't tell the Italian "soft r" when someone speaks English, it's totally a different sound...only if you hear him (or me, or many others) speak in Italian, and know the language well enough, I think it becomes immediately clear.

 

The "rest" of our accent is of course completely Italian (!), it's just the "r" that's much softer...say, closer to skipping it than pronouncing it. I like it, at least on me, but it IS no doubt noticeable! ;-)

In the movie "Oscar" it shows an Italian mafioso named Angelo, who has become wealthy due to the prohibition of alcohol in the USA by supplying bootlegged alcohol. Angelo is taking elocution lessons to become a more dignified person since he is now wealth... 

Funny secret of the day: when I speak Italian, I don't pronounce the "r" correctly (this is of course not an "issue" in English where the "r" is totally different, but it might have been e.g. also in Spanish, etc.)...

To put it in a fancy way, that's how Gianni Agnelli (or the Italian nobles, which I'm not) used to speak...to put it less fancy, it's called "R moscia" and it drove my parents plus a logopedist crazy when I was a baby, before they finally gave up on me! ;...

the book includes details of the 90th Anniversary models, and it's publication date has been delayed until after they have been unveiled? I doubt it, as I wasn't expecting to see all the new models before the book is due to ship on 1st February. But it se...

Isn't Art Deco the same to all men? I'm sure after you've flipped through this book you'll realize that you want a Reverso! It's THE ORIGINAL SPORTS WATCH. JLC should use that as their slogan for Reverso. It's elegant, sporty, and historically significant...

A nice Reverso book needs to fill the gap between the 90s and now, nothing thorough has been written since Manfred Fritz. Maybe this one? Although Foulkes is sometimes too much about aesthetic rather than technical (his "time tamed" was a bit disappointin...
