While the motivation is different for each of us, for me the "engine" is critical. When a magnificent engine is paired with a timeless, and that often means "simple," external design, the combination is irresistable. Hence the appeal of the JLC MUT or the AP Royal Oak, for instance.
Looking forward to seeing the new introduction you hinted at in the post.
