I have always been a responsible and dedicated student, but never liked school, be it during basic, secondary or college school. It got “less worse” during my master’s degree studies... Anyway, nothing compared to having watchmaking classes – THAT’S beaut...

I just got back from the Wednesday AM class. I'm so-o-o- depressed. I thought I was fairly co-ordinated, but discovered I'm a real klutz. Lost one of the .25mm screws, plus dropped some parts multiple times. Couldn't have finished the class withou Lauren'...

The movements were furnished without escapements, so there were plenty of crevices in which a screw could hide. One of the instructors had to do quite a bit of disassembly to get it out. (I also lost a wheel, which fell to earth I know not where.) The eve... 

had a most memorable time. MERCI BEAUCOUP to JLC and their excellent staff.

What a special experience. I truly hope to experience this challenge myself one day. Many thanks for showing us the special experience. Hopefully, JLC will have a Master Class again the following year as I'd like to test my aptitude with the tweezers and ...

It was a great day, and really opened my eyes to the challenges inherent in crafting and repairing a watch movement. I knew that watches were little machines, but actually unscrewing things (Very small things!), seeing how they fit together, and trying to...

Thanks for posting these as well. I am really enjoying seeing both yours and Ming's dsocumentation of the event. I see some very nice watches on the students' wrists, too. Do you have a JLC and, regardless, what did you wear on your wrist to the Mastercla... 

I was wearing a Panerai to the class, so at least I was wearing a watch from the same family The Duometre looks very tempting so hopefully my budget can accomodate me in the future! Cheers, Anthony

Thanks to JLC for organizing the master class. I was lucky enough to participate in the first session on Monday. It was informative and above all a lot of fun. As DRMW and Anthony has pointed out, those screws were tiny! Here's a video to give you perspec...  

I still remember picking up those a tiny screw with the tweezers and suddenly out of no where it pops up in the air disappearing into no where land I can't believe I even loss the column wheel screw because that one is huge compared to the tiny baseplate ...

if you don't grab them in the correct way? Happened to me several times and luckily I could find the large pieces on the floor. - AT

Just really light pressure on the tweezers would shoot the small parts and screws across the table. I had one screw bounce over to the corner but I was able to find it. I also popped out the clutch lever on the floor but found that too. More videos coming... 

It's always easier taking things apart then putting it back together. We each had laptops with computer generated animation to show us the assembly steps. It took a lot of patience and steady hands to place the column wheel jumper, column wheel operating ... 

After an introduction to JLC and a detailed explanation about the 751 chrono movement, we all gathered around Gerhard's workbench to learn about our tools. Our first task was to remove the 3 screws holding the main plate: Regards, ED-209 This message has ...

It was much more difficult to put everything back together. IMO the hardest part was at the very end when trying to align the main plate over all the small gears: Regards, ED-209 This message has been edited by ED209 on 2009-10-14 15:18:28...

A few weeks back I was invited to a very nice Omega event with our AD. Though not as technically advanced as this, we were all treated to disassembling an automatic movement. To see the movement beating as we broke it down... it was a very special experie...
