Walt Odets article in the timezone "Horologium," goes a bit more in-depth, and they compliment each other, nicely.
Since the 839 and subsequent movements are based, originally, on the VC 1003/AP 2003, with an a change to the click spring, I think the MUT 34 was the best bang for the buck in ALL of Haute Horlogerie. The rectangular version, as used in the Reverso "Curtain" and other high-end specialties reveal the usefulness and power (read: torque) of this little "engine that could."
I do think it's a shame that the 38mm was discontinued, especially with tastes in dress watches coming back down to the 38-40mm level.
