I was wearing an Explorer II with a polar dial just before the 7 arrived. The Explorer must be one of the most legible watches there is and so it took a bit of mental adjustment when I first put on the 7! It didn't take long to get used to it though.
Yes, I believe there are elements of the EL2, including the strap change system.

Terrific watch. This one is my favorite of the AMVOX collection.
The symmetrical date really seals the deal. The piece is technical, interesting and well-designed. I wouldn't have the patience to keep my hands off of it either. Enjoy! John

I own Amvox7 as well and love it. Find the dial to be somewhat too busy as you've also mentioned but that is sort of compensated to me by the addition of this very special power reserve indicator. Also, may be it is just me but I see AMV7 as a younger bro...
