Jaeger Lecoultre Tribute to Geophysic, Platinum or Steel?

May 28, 2023,22:00 PM

Another great line sadly discontinued, the Geophysic...

There was much more to do with such a great case, in my opinion.

The first modern Geophysic  paid an homage to the mythic vintage. The others were great fictions, housing a new movement featuring a special sophistication, the True Seconds, with a world time or not.

So, let's start with the Tributes.

In Platinum:

Or in steel:

Two different dials, reminding the original.

A preference for the platinum, here, whose dial is closer to the original.

You?

Best,

Nicolas

To me steel feels like the more appropriate metal for this particular watch....

I do agree with you that the dial on the platinum....

which is true to the original, is cleaner and thus more appealing ....

Lovely shots, and one of my favourite JLC watches!

The platinum for sure, and not just because of the weight, but I like the simple layout of the dial!. Just simple and striking when worn. Both however are stunning mind you!

Retro-garde, unpretentious and gorgeous

but the budget whispers "steel." Still hope to add one of these someday...

I find the steel dial more balanced

Would be nice to have something waterproof (100m), with a screw down crown, shockproof and in a small, versatile package in the 36-39mm range, do they even have anything like that in the line up?

Both are good looking watches

But I’ll take the steel version. I’ve always liked the symmetry that the lines give.

Steel case with the Platinum dial!

Would be my choice, closer to the more prevalent original and simpler, but I love them both.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I like the sector dial of the steel, but the heft and clean dial of the platinum it’s just perfect. I also have to agree with the others that steel might be a bit more appropriate with this one.

7-4 for the Steel.

Went with the steel…both times

Such great watches, both very ‘under the radar’ which to me is a great feature! Love the subtle true seconds complication and the visibly higher quality of the movement, dial and indicators on the True Seconds model. Claus ...

Hola amigo Nicolas! Somehow I missed this thread you posted a couple of weeks ago. May I add to the roll call?

I definitively would go for the vintage steel one but I just own the steel Tribute which I like so much (though I would rather have preferred in a bit smaller case size). It is a lovely watch which brings some nice memories of a visit to Paris in 2014 aft...

I do hope so!
