Jaeger-LeCoultre

In house is often seen as a must, but is it?

Hi Ason,

Your question is not an easy one.

Please let me say first that I agree with what John wrote.

Yes JLC uses only movements they manufacture themselves. Is there a benefit with that? Generally yes. Is it always better? No I don't think so.

Why?  A GP movement is a GP movement, be it sold in a GP, a Cartier, a Daniel Roth, an Harry Winston, or a Vacheron Constantin. A JLC movement is a JLC movement, be it sold in a JLC, a Cartier, a Daniel Roth, an Audemars Piguet or a Vacheron Constantin.

For these two exemples the finish and the caracteristics are roughly the same for all movements going out of a manufacture, whatever the watch brand on the dial.

What counts in your choice are the caracteristics of each and every movement, compared to each other!

The JLC Master Compressor Dualmatic is equipped with the autotractor movement. If you're looking for a sports watch I don't think the other two choices get such a movement, be they movement manufacture or not (and they are not AFAIK). The autotractor is IMO a tough and reliably eficient Rolex movement with a finish close to current PP, or as good as current PP.

As John pointed out Blancpain and Piguet are so close you could think they are a watch manufacture together. The Piguet movement in the BP is quite a nice one. Still I have no clue of its capacities as a sports watch movement.

I have no opinion about the UN movement. Yes UN is independant. Is there a profit for you when buying from an independant? It depends probably on what you buy from this independant.

Out of the movement issue, don't forget you buy a watch, not just a movement.   smile

IMO the best being to buy both if you want to get a keeper.

I hope it helps.

Make the right choice.

Dje
