Jaeger-LeCoultre

I would get really excited.....except for one show stopper

This lovely and interesting JLC has a running equation of time display (in French "equation du temps marchante").  The date shown on this watch is Oct 16.  At that time of year, solar time is BEHIND civil time.  The amount of correction for that date is approx 14 minutes.  That means that solar time should be 14 minutes behind civil time.  Unfortunately, this watch has it backwards!!!  It shows solar time (the hand with the sun) about 15 minutes AHEAD of civil time.

A very well known sun dial dealer (and expert) pointed this out to Jaeger when the watch debuted.  If anybody should know the relationship between solar time and civil time it would be a sun dial dealer!  Jaeger's response was that it was not interested in changing the watch and that Patek had made a similar mistake on one of its timepieces.

But for me, what's the point of having a running equation display if it is wrong all the time (except for those dates such as April 15 when solar and civil time are the same)?  This is like a stopped clock that is right twice a day.
