I'm Bored With My Watch Clasp. I want one of these!

The cool clasp of Ted-Lo's JLC Extreme Lab made me realize, clasps are important!  Look at the Vacheron Constantin Clasp with the Maltese cross, it's a nice big hunk of metal and it's large and satisfying to see.  The Patek Philippe deployment buckles with the Calatrava cross logo is also a nice touch as it adds a little bit of character to an otherwise plain buckle.  Some may argue these two examples are a little showy as they incorporate large logos into their buckles - but most would agree a nice big buckle looks more satisfying and gives you that feeling that your watch is more secure.  I'm okay with the logos on the buckles - as I just like the visual balance of a larger buckle.

I'm looking at my JLC watch buckle.  It's a little plain.  Does anybody have one of these?  It's hard to explain it over the phone to the boutique, so I don't think they understand me.  They tell me they have a nice deployment buckle, but it's not this one with micro adjustment.  Also, notice the JL logo here is so subtly integrated into the design that's done very well.  This buckle was apparently designed during the days when Lambert was in charge at JLC by the inimitable Roland Iten, the Philippe Dufour of belt buckles.

I know some of you will read this as a very minor detail.  But minor details matter to some people some of the time.  Bentley, the car company once had a complaint from a customer - the fuel cap on the car was too ordinary complained one client, and that a Bentley vehicle should have a nicer fuel cap.  Bentley eventually debuted a shiny polished metal gas cap for their cars.  It's mostly hidden away from sight behind the little fuel door.  Most Bentley owners today hardly notice it.  But it's there!

Do you have any favorite clasps that you like?

Designer Charles Eames used to say, "The details are not the details. They make the design."

And I think both your JLC and Bentley examples exemplify that idea. I've long pined for a micro-adjusting strap clasp. I didn't know JLC, or anyone, made one. I wish they were more widely used. Thank you for sharing!

So true! Well said!

I have a feeling that this clasp wasn't easy to make. It probably cost 6-8x more than the normal clasp and most customers probably didn't appreciate it enough for it to make a difference. So they probably didn't make many of them. The normal basic pin buc...

Wasn't my company, unfortunately.

But I sure did enjoy the nice company cars!

Wonderful!

Is it somewhat similar to this system? ...

Yep that's it.

Simple but nice:

Alas, nit many are in this vein.... ...

Yes, this is already the newer/current one! This one is quite nice for a pin buckle. The Deployment is similar and nice too.

And the newer/current one is much nicer than the older one - which is the one I have. So I was thinking of upgrading my current one to the current one. But the newer version is a little too bulky for my Master Ultra Thin. But it could work well with my Re...

They'll have to make nicer and more elaborate pin buckles for you then!

Like the Extreme Lab buckle shows some thought was put into it.

Oh! Please tell!

I got confirmation from Iten and he said he was mainly involved with the clasp I made a post about.

This Extreme Lab one was apparently made internally by a JLC engineer/designer to Iten's knowledge and not from an outside contractor.

Here is the answer, my friend.

www.watchprosite.com And you met the creator in question during our visit!

Yes, my Bentley cars had wonderful fuel caps.

Currently....

JLC and VC have some of the most tasteful and appealing clasps in my opinion. That particular one for the EL and a few other limited edition JLC watches is a work of miniature mechanical art ....

Indeed.

Very nice clasps indeed... I really liked that VC Clasp on the 6000T Tourbillon. The watch wasn't bad neither... Oh who am I kidding, I'd eat this watch. It's that delicious. On the coast in Carmel. ...

What a watch.

To me, it's one of the pinnacles of classical design beauty. Few manage to match it, none to truly supersede it. Thanks a bunch for those epic pictures ....

Annoyed (with myself) about this strap.

My GSOTM was not purchased directly 🙄 through Omega and subsequently I received it with the buckle instead of the clasp shown on my DSOTMBB which I greatly prefer on looks and more importantly ease of use. We all make mistakes…one I intend to rectify at s...

Hmm. Doesn't look bad, but at least you have the option to switch!

The JLC boutique doesn't even know what the Stock Keeper Unit SKU code is for the clasp I want.
