For Geophysic Hard Core fans only ...

Here are some documents I received from my contact and the Heritage Gallery at the Manufacture...

First, the famous tag.

An official picture:

A pair of ads:

A German one which seems to mean something like " A new watch to celebrate an Historical Date ":

I love a lot this one:

Some interesting technical draws showing the construction of the Geophysic case:

And now, the " Plat de Resistance "...

If you're a big fan of the Géophysic, you certainly know the front cover of the dedicated brochure, represented here:

But did you have the opportunity to see what is inside?

If not, here you are!

The brochure tells the story of the 2 commanders of the USS Skate and Nautilus who saw their mission in the Polaris area celebrated on the 16th of December, 1958.

On the 16th of December, these 2 Commanders received from some Citizens of Geneva a Chronometer Géophysic.

It is also reminded that the JLC Chronometers were used by some Commanders of Boats such as " The Liberty ", The " Cristoforo Colombo ", or the " United States ".

Here, a close up of the text on the left part of this page:

Which is also important, and this has a relation with the Géophysic, is that thank to this Brochure, we learn that beside the Geophysic, the Geomatic, and the latest Caliber 906, there was, in 1958 another Chronometer, the Master Mariner... I'm investigating right now on it.

smile

Then, on the last page of this brochure, it is said all the merits of the Géophysic : an Anti Magnetic, and accurate timekeeper.

The text used in this document was taken from the " Journal Suisse D'Horlogerie et de Bijouterie ", in 1959.

It is a pity that the text is in French, but at least, you now know where the pictures were taken from.

The cherry on the cake?

The Géophysic Leaflet:

" Specially dedicated to those who work close to powerful magnetic fields "

" A robust construction in an elegant conception ".

This leaflet sums the Story behind the Géophysic, like told in the brochure above, and shows the different references of this model:

Being able to get all these documents and goodies around the Geophysic is a great part of the Collecting pleasure, and also helps to better understand and appreciate the true value of our beloved watches.

As we mentionned watches, a last picture about the JLC Chronometers, a kind of Family picture, even if some " members " are still missing.

Hope you will enjoy these extra candies ...

Best,

Nicolas

Interesting documents, thanks. The Geophysic label I knew previously has a different colour scheme. One more nice oddity...

Another cool ducument, Clavi.

Thanks for sharing this one--an intriguing watch. I never thought i'd become a fan of vintage pieces, but these pieces seem so modern..... Jason

Vintage pieces need some work to be fully appreciated.

 By: amanico : August 3rd, 2010-09:31
While the moderns are more evident, as you have a kind of " immediate " story, with modern pieces. You immediately know if the piece sings to you or not, while, on the Vintage, it is a bit more complicated. Of course, there may be an instantaneous love wi...

OK, this was definitely worth waiting for...

Awesome post, Nicolas. It is like Christmas, Santa Vlad! I love looking at the Geophysic more and more, so I am really enjoying this treasure trove of goodies. It makes me wish MJLC would do a Tribute to the Geophysic, for real, not a total recreation in ...

I would like to see a decently sized Geophysic ( 38 / 40 mm maximum ), with an original case ( I mean a case which doesn't exist, currently ), a traditional dial, very close to the original, and a very modern movement, with which JLC could express its tal...

This IS real Hard Core, Nicolas!

Another fantastic post! It’s this kind of posts that makes us dream of finding the original and dream that JLC will make a re-edition close to the original! A sincere thank you, my friend Best Blomman

Indeed, Blomman.

The Geophysic is this kind of watch I would like to have in original ( which is luckily already done ) and in an inspired re intepretation! Let's pray and hope that JLC will make our dreams come true. Thanks for the nice words, my friend. Best, Nicolas

Now, creating the reference post about the Ads, Catalogs and Leaflets took a long time... And posts! One day, I will gather all these informations about the Geophysic and will post them in only one thread. It is worth it! Best, Hans. Nicolas

I am just amazed...

Thank Nico, once again, you did a great job. A pleasure to read. Reading the insights and imagining how it was back then, makes me feel good. I really like the ad about the submarine commanders, super cool. Gracias Nico. Un abrazo. Vte

A pity it is written in French, as you would all love the text! Like you, I appreciate a lot the historical background behind some watches, such as the Géophysic. Thanks for your nice words, Hermano. Un abrazo, Nicolas.

Once again...

Homework first! And it bis far from being boring, you'll see. I won't separate Modern and Vintage watches. I know that many are Modern or Vintage, rarely both, they have their own interest, but when I see brands like Rolex, JLC, PP, for example, there are...

Not yet a hard core fan...,

but I am beginning to appreciate these vintage pieces along with their history. Thanks for sharing this fabulous post. Goh

Thanks a lot, Goh!

You are already in the Vintage world, with some pieces like the Memo black dial... Even if it is a piece from the 90ies, it is so firmly close to the Vintage... Best, Nicolas
