E873...Did anyone get the Memo?

Jun 28, 2020,07:04 AM

Got a break from the usual rain today so have the usual rotation a day-off today and went with what is probably THE most sentimental piece in my ‘collection’, my Memovox E873 - a prenatal gift from my mother that literally sat around for 18 years before I got to wear it and even now only gets used sparingly (to put it nicely).

I still remember Nico saying that this watch is not photogenic at all and looks better in the metal. I TOTALLY agree - although maybe in my older age now, I think even the photos aren’t as ‘bad’ as I once thought. smile

(Excuse the date everyone, changing it on this model is a pain, and given the lack of a ‘quick set’ - I truly couldn’t be bothered).

Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!

Very cool Memovox which is indeed much better in the real than on picture.

You Sir are truly a walking compendium of information. I’ve never seen the dial variations laid out like that. Part of your personal collection?

These are so cool and funky!

The only other emotions I’d feel might be a twinge of envy (in a good way - if such a thing exists) but mainly a sense of pure awe in terms of BOTH the breadth and depth of knowledge held within these ‘walls’...

Very nicely put. [nt]

Nice memovox 873 indeed, your mother had very good taste ! This dial variation is even less seen than others, and yours seems to be in a pristine condition. Re. the date : as a reminder, there is no quick set, but still a "semi-quick set" on this model. Y...

Appreciate it Karmin!

Thank you for the kind advice and time taken to pen down the instructions regarding the ‘semi’ quick-set. Our dear friend Nico was probably the first to enlighten me of the following ‘trick’ about 15 years ago - prior to which I had always done it the ‘ha...

I have the gold version, and an emotional attachtment like yours. I inherited this watch when my father died back in 2004. (See pictures in next message - technical issues...) It is a special watch. The shape looks beautiful and weird at the same time. St...

For the wonderful pictures and sharing the story behind your timepiece. I feel we share the same parallel in this instance - my piece will invariably always remind me of my (late) mother. For me, seeing the watch in motion, provides a ‘living’ reminder th...
