Dear fellow Purist, I reallly have to scratch the memovox itch, thanks to all the posts especially from Nico
Due to budget limit, I am now torn between Amvox 1 titanium with caliber 918 and vintage 1971 Memovox E857 with caliber 916
I love both. The amvox is sporty, bold, and pretty rare. The E857 is classic, sober, and nice size 37 mm.
I have 2 concerns :
1. While the E857 is far more affordable and I can use the remaining fund to get it serviced, what is the prospect of parts availability? Considering the age is almost 50 years, will the JLC service it properly ( I mean is the parts still available including the plexiglass etc). The watch will be a keeper so I think about long time serviceability.
2. While both have similar caliber (918 has hacking second, 916 does not), the way it sounds is very different. AFAIK, the E857 use hammer which strike a post that welded to the caseback. The amvox us gong and double caseback. Please correct me. The sound of amvox is far more louder and crystalline. Some people says that using titanium provide richer sound?
Will be very thankful if you guys can give me insight, and experience if owning E857 and or amvox1.
