Ah, the pre-Richemont IWC and JLC days. When the IWCs had the Teutonic simplicity of 80s-90s Mercedes-Benzes. And the JLCs had a special elegance.
Nowadays both feel to me like they’ve lost what made them stand out - lost, I suppose, to marketing, branding, and bean counting in the name of growth and profit.
If only I’d kept my late-90s catalogs from both!

I've recently been enjoying a couple of old loves from the late '90s. IWC was one of the pioneers in making tool watches from Titanium and these, while well used over 20+ years are still running well within COSC standards. Quite a tribute to their ETA-bas...

After I discovered the brands history I fell in love with it but as soon as I encountered the structural restoration (german: KERN sanierung) it pushed me away.
