The thickness ia actually reasonable considering the alarm function. There is no thin alarm watch because it need space for echo.
The real problem with this watch is the rigid end link which makes the lug to lug whopping 54 mm eventhough the diameter only 40 mm. And yes the lack of bezel makes the dial so big that it looks like a 42 mm watch.
