A question.

I just noticed that there seems to be a gap on the top and bottom of the slide. Is that normal? Is that why water resistance is zero? The sound seems to emanate from there

A dream 12 years in the making
By: epigram : January 11th, 2024-04:32
First set eyes on this 12 years ago and was smitten And finally my dream has come true! Mixing it up with a sporty rubber strap. ...
Sincere congratulations!

It's a timepiece that uniquely marries classical and modern design elements, in my opinion to a highly pleasing effect. Much enjoyment, cheers, Filip
it sounds great but maybe a bit soft.
By: epigram : January 11th, 2024-05:02
Not that I have had the chance to hear and compare with other repeaters but I read in another thread that IWC repeaters are one of softer ones (if not the softest). I won't be finding out for myself in the near future, if ever!
They're generally good sounding!
By: patrick_y : January 11th, 2024-06:17
Good reasonably sound, but usually very slow. The 12:59 sequence often takes well over 22 seconds (I prefer a 17-19 second sequence).
Lots of ways to evaluate a minute repeater!
By: patrick_y : January 12th, 2024-05:38
1. Volume - is it loud and is it consistently loud? Some MRs get loud and quiet and loud again! 2. Tonality - does it ding and dong? Or does it Thunk and Thank! Nothing ruins my day more than hearing something thunk thunk thunk. Also, the tonality and the...

Those considerations were not on the top of my mind. But now that I known I can't unknown it. Whoops. Now I have to go time the chiming and the gaps...
Welcome to MINUTE REPEATERS!
By: patrick_y : January 12th, 2024-05:24
It's kind of like a whole topic in itself! Because the watch interacts more than visual and touch, but with sound, and the slider!
Thanks Patrick.

I have to say that I’m a big fan of Cathedral Gongs. I love the richness of the tone and the increased resonance of these. The gong design on the JLC Perpetual Calendar is quite interesting with a lovely tone. The Patek 5178g is quite spectacular - but th...
It's a beautiful movement!

I too like the three finger bridges! I don't always prefer the cathedral gongs. As I sometimes prefer the brighter sound of non cathedral gongs. But indeed, the cathedral gongs are lovely! They have a heavenly character to them.

One thing that most of us members share is an OCD disposition! Resonance, tone and volume are just as important to the equation - as well as wearability. Interestingly, the only MR I’ve heard that doesn’t have an extended gap between the hours and minutes...

Managed to take a close up of the two gaps
By: epigram : January 11th, 2024-16:14
Thank you for sharing. Do you see those two small curved openings above and below the slide? Wondering if mine has a defect?? ...
Ok. Sorry to say that but
By: MTR : January 11th, 2024-16:19
for me that doesn’t look ok. Mine is in the vault and I can try to get there before weekend to have a closer look for you. But if you look on my pics you won’t find this kind of curved openings…
I went to the vault for you.
By: MTR : January 11th, 2024-17:30
It just didn't give me peace, and I want to help you too. So I went to the vault just now. This is what my watch looks like from the side. Definitely no curved openings! All the best Thomas ...

🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Now you can enjoy your new marvel to the max!! Congrats again Thomas
You are welcome
By: MTR : January 12th, 2024-15:51
I simply imagined how I would feel in such a situation and how nervous I would be. 🙏
I concur with Thomas...

I have the first generation ref. 5240. Barring some minor tweaks (possibly waterproofing in the second gen), the case construction is similar: three layers with brushed section in the middle. There should be no seam to this; this seam suggests warping or ...
It looks great.

I hope you have many years of enjoyment.
Great looking MR
By: Timeout : January 11th, 2024-13:29
And I particularly like the strap choice. Please post a video of the striking when you get the chance!
Congrats for the new watch!

Really a stunning piece! Breguet numerals would have added an extra touch, but I admit I am a bit biased. How's the sound?
Sounds good to me.
By: Timeout : January 11th, 2024-15:50
In this case the regularity of the cadence of the striking is great! The fact that it’s 23 seconds total lapse time is neither here nor there. The overall effect is most pleasing.

Congrats on such a beautiful watch!
