We use email on the iPad/phone apps to handle the private messages.
Private messages are sent via an email dialog in the app. And all inbound private messages will arrive with an email notification. At some point we might replicate the browser based PM functionality in the app. But seeing as it’s so easy to switch between email and the app in iOS it’s not much of a priority.
