Truly a classic
Aug 03, 2020,06:30 AM
I was immediately captivated by this watch when I saw the first pictures of it in early July. I have long appreciated the most simple LF designs, especially the Classic collection. This dial adds just enough color and visual elements (cross hair and small burgundy numerals), while retaining the essence of the original LF design language. The opaline dial looks quite good in the 'real pictures' I have seen. If you look at the Laurent Ferrier tag on IG for the past month, you will find some pictures and videos from those who have already taken delivery of this piece. Interestingly, those pictures show a slightly different strap.
The movement is a departure from the rest of the Classic series. For me personally, manual winding is a plus over the automatics, even at the cost of losing the micro-rotor. Some have taken issue with the micro-blasted finishing on the movement compared to more traditional methods. I understand that complaint, but for me, this is something different that seems to complement the overall package, not detract from it. This piece also comes at a substantial discount compared to the steel micro-rotors.
For me, the dial was love at first sight. It blends the traditional LF dial designs with some small updates that make the watch slightly more casual and much more versatile. The titanium case and micro-blasted finishing are not to everyone's taste, but the overall package is very hard to ignore.
