I bought an Urban Jurgensen Series 5 in 35mm. It was a beautiful watch but because it was new old stock, it required a service a few months after buying it. As there was no authorised dealer in the UK, I had to bring my watch to Geneva where the sales director of UJ took a train to meet me to collect the watch. And I received my serviced watch back 10 months later at Salon QP because that was the only time UJ would be dropping by in the UK. So I learned an important lesson with independents from this. Always ensure that there is an AD where I live or else the after sales service could be an issue. I think there would be less of a problem if I lived in Switzerland but now that I am in Malaysia, I think the smart thing is to stick with a big brand and you know which one I am sticking to
Also, with big brands, if a watch required work during its warranty period, there is no cost to the buyer. With independents, unless you return it to the AD you had bought the watch from, you would be charged transportation and handling fees by an AD. I found this out the hard way with MB&F for example. But I digress, this is a different issue altogether. I am convinced I will not increase my collection without selling one or two of my other watches which is quite likely including the 1530A!!
